Gun History
Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as single mount 127mm Anti-Aircraft Gun / Type 89 (1929) 12cm Gun serial number unknown.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 6th Kure Chinjufu (6th Kure Naval Base) operated by the Talahashi Group or Kanehara Group. This gun was transported to Ballale Island and emplaced on the southwest corner of the island inside a revetment made from empty fuel drums filled with coral rubble. This gun provided anti-aircraft defense for the area.

Wreckage
This gun survived until the official surrender of Japan then abandoned. On November 10, 1945 photographed with an Australian Army 7th Infantry Battalion soldier and noted to be in good condition and working order. The gun remains in situ with the barrel elevated to roughly 45°.
