Wartime History Nazan Bay borders Atka Island in the Aleutian Island Chian of Alaska in the United States. Wartime History During early June 1942, U.S. Navy's PatWing 4 (Patrol Wing 4) operated PBY Catalinas supported by seaplane tender USS Gillis operated from Nazan Bay for operations against Kiska. On July 19, 1942 seaplane tender USS Casco (AVP-12) to establish an advanced seaplane base at Nazan Bay to support seaplane and flyingboat operations against Kiska including anti-shipping searches, bombing of enemy positions and cover for surface force bombardments.
