Location Ford Island is located in the center of Pearl Harbor. Battleship Row borders the southern side. East Lock is located to the northeast and Middle Lock to the northwest. USS Arizona Memorial USS Utah Memorial, USS Oklahoma Memorial and USS Missouri BB-63 are located to the south. Prewar During 1906 to 1918, the United States government acquired Ford Island and developed the island into a military base including an airfield and seaplane base and support facilities. By 1941, Ford Island was taken over by the U.S. Navy (USN) and the entire island became known as NAS Pearl Harbor. Wartime History On December 7, 1941 Ford Island was targeted during the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, with the seaplane base and Luke Field targeted.
