| Location Kaneohe Bay borders Kaneohe (Kāneʻohe) on the norhern coast of O'ahu in Hawaii in the United States of America (USA). Also known as Kāneʻohe Bay. Wartime History On December 7, 1941 Kaneohe was attacked by Japanese aircraft from the first wavy including B5N Kate torpedo bombers that targeted the airfield and facilities, approximately nine minutes prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. During the attack, 27 of the 36 PBY Catalinas at Kaneohe were destroyed and an additional six were damaged. On the ground, eighteen sailors were killed in the attack. Seven PBY-5 Catalinas from VP-14 lost on this day, including: PBY 2357, PBY 2359, PBY 2361, PBY 2362, PBY 2364, PBY 2365 and PBY 2369. Also, PBY 2363 was was reported as lost but in fact was salvaged and rebuilt. Afterwards, PBY-5 Catalina (precise identity unknown) was stripped for usable parts then sunk into Kaneohe Bay.
