    Strait of Malacca (Malacca Strait, Selat Malaka)  Indonesia
Location
The Malacca Strait is located between the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra Island and includes Weh Island (Pulau We). At the southeastern end connects to the South China Sea and Singapore Strait. To the norrthwest connects to the Andaman Sea. Also known as Malacca Strait, Strait of Malacca or Straits of Malacca (plural). In Indonesia known as "Selat Malaka". One Fathom Bank is located at the center west of Kuala Lumpur. Prewar and during the Pacific War, part of the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today the northern portion is part of Malaysia and the southern portion is part of Indonesia.

Wartime History
During the Pacifc War, used by the Japanese as a shipping route. On May 16, 1945 after midnight, the Battle of the Malacca Strait (Battle off Penang, Sinking of Haguro) when Royal Navy destroyer sinks Haguro. This was the the last destroyer action of World War II.

Kuma
Sunk January 11, 1944 by submarine HMS Tally-Ho discovered March 12, 2004.

Haguro
Sunk May 16, 1945 by gunfire and torpedoes roughly 55 nautical miles west-southwest of Penang.

U-181 (I-501)
Scuttled February 12, 1946 by HMS Loch Glendhu and HMS Loch Lomond.

U-862 (I-502)
Scuttled February 15, 1946 by HMS Loch Lomond.

Myōkō
Scuttled early July 1946.

Takao
Scuttled October 27, 1946 by gunfire from HMS Newfoundland.
