Location Lat 3° 3' 42S Long 128° 11' 40E Piroe is located at an elevation of 82' / 24m on western Ceram Island (Seram) in the Moluccas Island Group (Moluccas Islands). Borders Piroe Bay to the south. Also known as Piru. Prewar and during the Pacific War, located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Moluccas) in Indonesia. Wartime History During 1942, occupied by the Japanese and remained occupied until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. American missions against Piroe (Piru) September 21, 1944–November 10, 1944 September 21, 1944 (FEAF) B-24s attack shipping in Piroe Bay. October 22, 1944 (FEAF) B-25s hit Piroe Bay supply dumps.
