Location Lat 0° 52' 60S Long 131° 13' 60E Doom Island is located off Sorong on western New Guinea. Also known as Dom Island. In Indonesian known as Doom Barat. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Dutch New Guinea (DNG) in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Between 1963-2002 part of Irian Jaya. Today located in Raja Ampat Regency in West Papua Province (West Irian Jaya) of Indonesia. Wartime History During 1942, occupied by the Japanese forces. Starting in late 1944 attacked by Allied aircraft. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
