Location Lat 128°4'0" Long 1°34'0" Miti Island is located off the eastern coast of the northern arm of Halmahera. In Indonesian known as Pulau Miti. Also known as Meti Island. Prewar, during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province (Provinsi Maluku Utara) in Indonesia. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in early September 1945. Starting in late July 1944 attacked by Allied bombers and fighters until early August 1945. After the surrender of Japan, U.S. forces contact Japanese Army General Ishii to make surrender arrangements. On August 25, 1945 as arranged by radio, sixteen PT Boats rendezvoused with two Japanese barges with General Ishii's chief of staff and operations officer off Miti Island. On August 26, 1945 PT Boats transport Japanese Army Lt. General Ishii to Morotai to surrender. On August 30, 1945 four PT Boats transport 50 Japanese from Miti to Morotai to contact isolated units to effect a complete surrender.
