Location Lat 33° 36' 0N Long 130° 25' 0E Fukuoka is located in Fukuoka Province on the northern shore of Kyūshū Island in Japan. Borders Hakata Bay (Hakata-wan) 博多湾 to the north. American missions against Fukuoka May 20, 1938–July 29, 1945 Mushiroda Airfield (Itazuke Air Base, Fukuoka Airport) Located at Fukuoka Hakata 博多区 Lat 33° 36' 0N Long 130° 25' 0E Port located in Fukuoka-ken bordering Hakata Bay. Fukuoka Western Army Headquarters Located at Fukuoka. On August 15, 1945 after Emperor Hirohito announced the surrender of Japan the remaining sixteen American prisoners detained at this location by the Kempei Tai were taken to a nearby field at Aburayama stripped naked and hacked to death with swords. Afterwards, their bodies were exhumed and cremated. The sixteen Americans executed include: 1st Lt. Robert G. Neal, pilot B-25J 44-31300 1st Lt. Louis J.
