Location
Fukuoka Prefecture is located in the northern center of Kyūshū Island in southern Japan. To the north borders the Shimonoseki Strait (Kanmon Straits) and beyond southern Honshū. To the southeast borders Oita Prefecture. To the south borders Kumamoto Prefecture. To the southwest borders Saga Prefecture. To the northwest borders the Korea Strait. To the northeast borders the Seto Inland Sea and to the west borders the Korea Strait.

Aburayama
Site of the execution of sixteen American prisoners, and their cremation.

Miwa (Chikuzen)
On March 22, 2005, the towns of Miwa and Yasu from Asakura District merged to form the new town of Chikuzen.
