Location
Lat 26° 7' 29N Long 127° 40' 10E  Itoman is located in the southern Okinawa Island in Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan. Today known as Itoman-shi. Also spelled Ichuman.

96th Infantry Division Memorials
Memorial Monument of Lieutenant General Buckner, 615 Maezato, Itoman-shi, Okinawa, Japan

On a hilltop are three memorials dedicated to the U.S. Army 96th Infantry Division (96th ID) "Deadeye Division".

Buckner Monument
On June 18, 1945 U.S. Army Lt. General Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr. commander of the Okinawa campaign was killed at this location. He was the second highest ranking General killed during World War II. The Buckner Monument is large rock with a memorial marker atop at Itoman.

Easley Monument
On June 19, 1945 at virtually the same location, U.S. Army Brigadier General Claudius Easley was killed at the same spot. Today, on the hilltop is a stone memorial dedicated to Brigadier General Claudius M. Easley. The memorial reads in English and Japanese: "In memoriam Claudius M. Easley 1891–1945 Brig. Gen. U.S. Army Killed on This Spot 19 June 1945" at the center of the memorial is the 96th Division logo and below the inscription: "His disregard of personal safety-inspired the men of the 96th to hold their own lives lightly in performance of their duty - for his example he paid the supreme price". To the left is the May Monument.

May Monument
On June 5, 1945 U.S. Army Col. Edwin T. May was Killed In Action (KIA) at this location. A memorial marker at this location reads: "Edwin T. May 1896–1945 Colonel 383rd Inf. Regt. killed on this spot 5 June 1945. A great soldier fought and died here. His bravery-courage and leadership will never be forgotten! 96th Inf. Div. Assn." To the right is the Easley Monument.

Kyan Memorial (Kyan Misaki Enchi)
Kyan, Itoman-shi
Large black marble monument where civilians jumped to their death off cliffs during the battle.

Himeyuri Monument & Museum (Himeyuri No To)
Aza-Ihara, Itoman-shi
Museum that covers the history of the battle, and documents the smaller stories of civilians mobilized and killed during the battle, working in a hospital, left behind to commit suicide.

Konpaku No To (Mass Grave Site)
Komesu, Itoman-shi is located off Route 331 Japanese monument where an estimated 35,000 victims of the battle were buried in a mass grave.

44th Independent Mixed Brigade (44th IMB) Cave
Natural cave that was expanded with tunnels dug by hand by the Japanese Army into a tunnel system. Recommended to hire a local guide to find this site.

Giretsu commandos Memorial
A memorial stone dedicated to the Giretsu commandos is located at Itoman on Okinawa.

Peace Memorial Museum
Two-story museum documenting the war on Okinawa
