| Location Lat 26° 14′ 45″ N Long 127° 43′ 19″ E Urasoe 浦添市 is located on Okinawa Island in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. To the south is Naha and to the north is Ginowan and to the east is Nishihara. Camp Kinser (Machinato, Makiminato Service Area) Located at Urasoe. Battle of Okinawa Museum Located to the north of Naha inside Camp Kinser off Highway 58. Non-military personnel must be escorted onto base. This museum has six display rooms, with many relics collected from tunnels over the years. Kakuazu Ridge (Hacksaw Ridge) Kakazutakadai Park 1-chōme-5 Kakazu, Ginowan-shi, Okinawa 901-2226 Kakazu Ridge (pronounced "Cock-a-zoo") is part of the Maeda Escarpment (Urasoe-Maeda Escarpment). Named for Maeda on the southwest side and Urasoe Castle (Urasoe Jo) on the northwest side. During the Battle of Okinawa, the U.S. Army nicknamed the feature "Hacksaw Ridge" or "Big Escarpment". In April 1945 defended by roughly 2,500 Japanese Army under the command of Colonel Munetatsu Hara. On April 25, 1945 the U.S. Army 96th Division was deployed to the northeast of the ridge from Hill 150 and began an artillery bombardment firing a total of 1,616 rounds plus aircraft dropping napalm onto the ridge against suspected enemy positions. On April 26, 1945 they attacked and initially had little difficulty reaching the forward face of the escarpment but when they reached the top came under machine gun fire from the reverse slope and suffered heavy casualties and by dusk had to withdraw under a mortar smoke screen. Today, the ridge is located in Kakazutakadai Park with free admission and panoramic views of the invasion beaches area. The area still has caves and many smaller Japanese memorials. The ridge is located near Garlic House Restaurant and Urasoe Castle (Urasoe Jo). The has many caves and Japanese war memorials and monuments. Urasoe Castle (Urasoe Jo) Ruins located at the southern edge of Urasoe built during the 13th century atop Kakazu Ridge.
