Location Lat 40° 6′ 2″ N Long 124° 23′ 53″ E Sinuiju 신의주 meaning “New Ŭiju” is located near the Yalu River and the provincial capital of North P'yŏngan Province in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). To the north is the international border with China connected by a railroad bridge across the Yalu River. To the east is Ŭiju, the "old city". Also known as Wi-ju, Shingishu, Wi-dschu, 신의주, Sin-gi-shu, Sinyichju, Sinŭiju, Sin-eui-chu, New Eui-chu, Shingishū. Korean War During the Korean War, Chinese forces used the railroad crossings to send troops and supplies into North Korea. United Nations aircraft heavily bombed the area during the Korean War. American missions against Sinuiju November 1, 1950–July 9, 1951 Today Sinuiju is the capital of North Pyeongan Province.
