Following the Yamagata Detachment offensive against Soviet and Mongolian forces at the Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan Incident), wounded were transported aboard trucks to Amukulang on May 30, 1939. On June 2, General Komatsubara flew to Amukulang and Kanchuerhmiao to pray for the detachment's war dead and address the troops.
