Today, it is an unincorporated and organized territory of the United States of America (USA). Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. To the north borders the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). To the southwest is Cocos Island. Borders the Philippine Sea to the west.
