| Location Located on the high ground (Height 752) west of the Khalkhin Gol. Also known as "Hamardaba Mountain" or "Hamar-Daba" or "Hamar-Dava"or "Khamar-Daba" or "Hamardada". There was an obo (stone marker) at this location known as "Hamardaba Obo" (or spelling varations noted above). Wartime History During the late 1930s, there was a Mongolian border post at Hamardaba. During the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident this location had an airfield and headquarters (command post). During bad weather, aircraft would navigate using the Hamar-Daba Command Post as a visual reference. The area overhead this point was codenamed “Kvadrat 623-B”. During early June 1939, this location was selected by Komkor G. K. Zhukov as his headquarters for the 1st Army Group. By June 5, 1939 timber was sent to this location to commence construction. Also, used as the VSS (Soviet Air Force) command post commanded by Yakov V. Smushkevich. Also, artillery fire was controlled from the HQ using terrain models. During August, Marshall Choibalsan visited the command post.
