Location
Crossing over the Khalastin River (Holsten River), roughly 14km east of the confluence with the Khalkhin Gol. To the north is Heights 747 and to south is Kobu Heights.
Construction
On July 6, 1939, the 23rd Division instructed their engineers to build a bridge across the Holsten River, to facilitate movement of troops from the northern and southern sectors of the battlefield. On July 8th, construction was attempted, but enemy fire prevented any construction. The next day, the engineers installed two 20m pontoon bridges over the river, dubbed "Engineer Bridge" and immediately went into use as the sole crossing over the smaller Holsten River, connecting the northern and southern sectors of the battlefield. After the New Engineer Bridge was constructed in late July further to the west, this bridge became known as "Old Engineer Bridge".
