Also known as "Tamsagbulag" or "Tamsag" or "Tamsagbulak". In the Mongolian language, "bulag" means spring. To the east roughly 120 kilometers away is Khalkhin Gol. Wartime History During the late 1930s, Tamsagbulag was a small town with a military base and supply area used by both the Soviet Red Army and Mongolian Army. Also stationed in the area was the Mongolian Army 6th Cavalry Division. Starting in early May 1939 Tamsagbulag was rapidly developed into a major staging base and rear area to support the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident to the east. On June 5, 1939, Soviet Red Army Komkor Georgy K, Zhukov arrived at Tamsagbulag and took command of Soviet and Mongolian forces.
