Location
Ulaanbaatar located in roughly the center of Mongolia and is the largest city and national capital. Today, botders Russia to the north, China to the east and south.
History
Previously, known as Örgöö , also spelled Urga between 1639–1706. Known as Ikh Khüree or Da Khüree during
1706–1911. After 1911, Niislel Khüree.
In 1924 after the death of religious leader King Bogd Khan, the “Mongolian People’s Republic” was proclaimed with support from the Soviet Union and the city became the capital of the People's Republic of Mongolia. Wartime History
Soviet and Mongolian forces were based here during May 1939, prior to the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident.

Located outside the city, this small musem includes indoor and outdoor displays.
National Museum of Mongolian History
Located near the center of the city, this museum includes several military related displays
General Zukov Museum
Museum devoted to Komkor Georgy K. Zhukov and his residence in Mongolia during 1939.
