Location
The U.S. Army 116th Station Hospital (Tacloban) was located at Tarragona in a coconut grove near the coast in Leyte Province on Leyte in the Philippines. Although lnown as Tacloban, it was actually located to the south in Tarragona.

Construction
On December 20, 1944 the U.S. Army 116th Station Hospital (Port Moresby) arrived and began construction on December 31, 1944. Doctor Theodore R. Failmezger was assigned as Commanding Officer until February 25, 1945.

Wartime History
Nineteen days after construction begain ad admitted its first patient on January 18, 1945. The hospital was constructed around a "main street" and was staffed by US Army personel an US Army female nurses. Departments included headquarters, dental clinic, surgery, dispensery, physical therapy, registration, chappel. Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, nurses area, red cross building, mess hall, water purification, guard post, post office, officer's area, nurse recreation hall and clinic area.

During May 1945, inspected by General Kirk, the surgeon general, this hospital was given the Award of Meritorious Service Unit Plaque "for superior performance of duty, achievement and maintenance of a high standard of discipline and outstanding devotion to duty, from  November 19, 1944 to  February 24, 1945. Dispanded November 30, 1945.
