Location
Basilan Island is located off Zamboanga in the northeast Sulu Archipelago of Basilan Province in the Autonomous Region In Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) of the Philippines. Includes Basilan Island the largest island in the largest and northernmost island in the Sulu Archipelago bordering the Basilan Strait. To the north is the Zamboanga Peninsula on the southwest of Mindanao.
Wartime History
On March 16, 1945 a medium landing craft (LCM) and one submarine chaser (SC), and supported by gunfire from three destroyers, two LCI(R), three LCS(L) and two LCI(M), land a U.S. Army reinforced company on Basilan Island.
