Location Poro Island is located in the Camotes Island Group (Camotes Islands) in Cebu Province in the Central Visayas (Region VII) in the Visayas (Visayas Islands) in the central Philippines. On the northwest coast is Esperanza. To the west is Pacijan Island and to the northeast is Ponson Island. Beyond to the east is Leyte Island and beyond to the west is Cebu Island. Wartime History On January 18, 1945 the U.S. Army 7th Division Task Force of 3d Bn, 184th Inf, reinforced lands on Poro and establishes a beachhead. On January 19, 1945 begins clearing the island with few contact with defending Japanese. On January 23, 1945 while clearing the island encounters opposition on Hill 854. By January 31, 1945 the island is secure. On February 2, 1945 the force departs for Leyte leaving the 2d Bn, 94th Inf (PA) garrison Poro and Pacijan.
