Location Lat 8° 59' 37S Long 147° 44' 30E Abuari is an inland village at an elevation of 5,029' /1,532m on the Abuari Trail in the Owen Stanley Range in New Guinea. Prewar a the Abuari-Kaile Trail connected this location to the southwest to Alolo (Alola) where it connects to the Kokoda Trail and northward to Asigari, Misima and Kaili and beyond. Today located in Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Kokoda Campaign, during late August 1942 the Japanese Army used the Abuari Track as a parallel route to the Kokoda Trail. By August 26, 1942 Japanese forces were established at this location and had emplaced machine guns that were able to fire on Alolo (Alola). On October 27, 1942 5th Air Force A-20 Havocs strike trails around Abuari.
