| Location Efogi is located at an elevation of roughly 5,029' on the Kokoda Trail on the southern slopes of the Owen Stanley Range in New Guinea. Today located in Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). To the northeast is Kagi and to the southwest is Brigade Hill. Prewar Efogi village was a prewar native village at this location on the south side of the ridge spanning a quarter mile. Wartime History During the Kokoda campaign, Efogi was the fourth staging post. On September 6, 1942 Australian Army 7th Division, 21st Brigade falls back to the vicinity of the Efogi Spur beyond Gap Mountain. A hasty defense is prepared by the 2/27th Battalion, 2/14th Battalion and 2/16th Battalion. On September 8, 1942 the Japanese Army with five reinforced battalions attacks the Efogi Spur area and forces the 2/27th Battalion off the trail and encircles the 2/14th Battalion and 2/16th Battalion and forces them to withdraw from Efogi to Ioribaiwa. American missions against Efogi September 7, 1942–October 3, 1942 Today Postwar, Efogi was settled at a different location than the prewar village. Today, Efogi No. 1 is roughly 1.5km away from the wartime site at Lat 9° 9' 15S Long 147° 39' 49E and further to the northeast is Efogi No. 2. Efogi Airport Built postwar.
