Location Hamburg Bay borders the northwest of Emirau Island (Emira) with an average depth of 9-10 fathoms. Prewar located in New Ireland District, Territory of New Guinea. Today located New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History On March 20, 1944 after the U.S. landing on Emirau Island, the US Navy built a PT Boat base on Hamburg Bay, including a dock area used by PT-Boats.
