Location Lat 8° 51' 33.31" S Long 148° 3' 38.39" E Isoge village is located at an elevation of 983' inland from the north coast of New Guinea. To the north is the Kokoda-Buna Road (Kokoda Highway). Also spelled Usogi, Asoge or Isogi all refer to the same location. Beyond to the northeast is Higatura and to the east is Isivita. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Northern District (Northern Province) of the Territory of Papua. Today located in Higaturu Rural, Sohe District of Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History After the Japanese Army landing during the night of July 21-22, 1942 on the north coast of New Guinea, Japanese forces advanced westward and occupied this area in late July 1942 and advanced to Kokoda. On July 26, 1942 two crew from B-25C "Aurora" 41-12792 pilot Captain Frank P. Bender and gunner TSgt Arnold M. Thompson bailed out before crashing near Isoge. By the end of July 1942, the Isoge area was under Japanese Army control. By early November 1942 this area was returned to Allied control when soldiers from the Australian Army and U.S. Army advanced eastward towards the north coast.
