Location Lat 6° 35′ 5″ S Long 147° 50′ 13″ E Langemak Bay is located on the north coast of eastern New Guinea. To the south is Finschhafen (Finschafen, Finschaven). Also spelled Langemark or Langemaak. Wartime American spelling "Langemak". Prewar and during the Pacific War part of Morobe District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History On March 10, 1942 the Japanese Army occupied the area and used Langemak Bay as an anchorage. Starting in the middle of June 1943 attacked by American aircraft until the middle of September 1943. American missions against Langemak Bay June 12, 1943–September 17, 1943 On September 22, 1943 at dawn U.S. Navy (USN) Rear Admiral Daniel E. Barbey's Task Force 76 (TF-76) landed the Australian Army, 20th Brigade under the command of Brigadier J. V. Windeyer at Scarlet Beach six miles north of Langemak Bay and advanced to occupy this area and used Langemak Bay. On October 20, 1943 LCVP landing crafy with reinforcements from the Australian Army 2/24th Infantry Battalion land at Langemak Bay. After the Allied occupation of the Finschhafen area, Langemak Bay was used as an anchorage by the U.S. Navy (USN) and Australian forces. Also used as a seaplane operating area.
