Location Lat 3° 8' 43.84" S Long 142° 29' 14.85" E Seleo Island is located off the north coast of New Guinea. The island has two villages: Seleo on the west coast and Angel on the south coast. To the northwest is Ali Island. To the west is Tapel Rock and Aitape Harbor (Attape Road) and beyond Aitape. To the southeast is Angel Island. To the south is the Babelsberg Strait and beyond Lemieng villages on the north coast of New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Sepik District in the Territory of New Guinea. During the 1960s became part of West Sepik Province. Today located in the Aitape-Lumi District of West Sepik Province (Sandaun Province) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During June 23-26, 1944 the 533rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment (533rd EBSR) Boat Battalion Headquarters Company and Company C move from New Britain to Seleo Island.
