    West Sepik Province (Sandaun Province)  Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Location
West Sepik Province (WSP) is located on the northern coast of New Guinea. Between 1884 until September 1914 part of Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea). Prewar and during World War II located in Sepik District in the Territory of New Guinea. During the 1960s, became West Sepik Province (Sandaun Province) . Today part of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Also known as Sandaun Province, the tok pisin word for sunset or west. The provincial capital is Vanimo. To the west is the international border with Papua Province (Irian Jaya) in Indonesia. To the east is East Sepik Province and to the south is Western Province (Fly) and to the southeast is Southern Highlands Province.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, the Japanese Army occupied the entire coastal area of the province. On April 22, 1944 US Army troops landed at Aitape to protect the eastern flank of the landing at Hollandia (Jayapura) further to the west. Tadji was developed into a large Allied airfield. Japanese counterattacked at the Driniumor River and were defeated.

Driniumor River (Bando River)  located to the east of Tadji, battle between Japanese Army versus U.S. Army.
Afua  inland village located to the west of Driniumor River.
Paup (Paup Hamlets)  located on the north coast of New Guinea.
Yakamul  located on the north coast of New Guinea.
Charov (Charok)  inland village to the south of the north coast of New Guinea.
Matapau (Karasin)  located on the north coast of New Guinea.
Lumi  located inland south of the Torricelli Mountains.

Nuku District
Nuku  capital of Nuku District, located to the south of Aitape.

Telefomin District
Telefomin  located in the interior of New Guinea.

Vanimo-Green River District
Vanimo  capital of West Sepik Province on the north coast of New Guinea.
