Location Lat 3° 16' 0S Long 142° 41' 60E Yakamul is located at an elevation of 3' / 1m on the north coast of New Guinea. Also known as Yakomul, Yakamul Hamlets, Jakamul, Yakamul Number 1, Yakamul or Yakamul Group. Today located in the Aitape-Lumi District of West Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Prewar, the Yakamul-Yambes Track a costal walking track spanned from east to west linked Yakamul westward to Tadji and eastward towards Wewak. Wartime History During 1943 occupied by the Japanese Army. During 1943-1944, Yakamul was used as a staging base for coastal barge traffic and an assembly point. During late April 1944 until early July 1944, Yakamul was used as a staging area for Japanese Army soldires prior to the Battle of the Driniumor River. Between March 1944 until the end of July 1944 attacked by American bombers. American missions against Yakamul March 26, 1944–July 31, 1944 Afterwards, occupied by the Australian Army and by early January 1945 deveoped into a staging base for patrols further to the east as part of "Jock Force".
