Location Varirata National Park is located in the Astrolabe Range and is accessible by road from Sogeri to the east. Lookouts from the park overlook the Port Moresby area and Bootless Bay area. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of Papua. Today located in Kairuku-Hiri District of Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). During 1971, the PNG Territory Administration purchased 640 acres of land for a sum of over $200,000 and built roads, talking tracks, toilets and buildings associated with Varirata National Park. It was officially opened on October 18, 1973 by Albert Maori Kiki, Minister of Lands. During the ceremony, Omani clan elder Kareki Ada gave a speech on behalf of the transitional landowners.
