Location Victoria Bay is a deep water bay at the western edge of Kairiru Island.The depth ranges from 18-37m with a flat sandy bottom. Bordering Victoria Bay are several villages including (from south to north) Iraiar, Buruan, Burawan, Shawir, Sisilal and Surai. Wartime History During December 1942 until 1944, Victoria Bay was used by Japanese merchant vessels and small ships during 1943-1944. At least two Japanese ships were sunk by American aerial attacks and sank into Victoria Bay. One is incorrectly claimed to be the India Maru, but that vessel was sunk five miles east of Kairiru Island.
