Location Cape Kurabu is located on the southern coast of Paramushir Island in the Kurile Islands. Also known as Musashi Naval Base, Kurabu Cape or Kurabu-saki. Borders Musashi Bay. Prewar and during World War II part of Japan. Postwar, part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Today, located in Sakhalin Oblast in Russia. Wartime History Developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Musashi Naval Base with extensive facilities including buildings, radio stations, RDF units, three piers and coastal defense guns and Musashi Airfield (Kurabu Cape Airfield). By late 1944, approximately 350 buildings were located in the vicinity with an extensive road network. The area had two radar sites were located there as well as four radio and four Radio Direction Finding (RDF) stations. Wartime History Used by the Imperial Japanese Navy as a military base area. Between February 1944 until July 1945 attacked by American bombers. Also, subjected to several U.S. Navy (USN) shore bombardments. Allied
