Location
Makanrushi Island
is located in the Kurile Islands. To the southwest is Onekotan Island (Onnekotan, Онекотан). To the northeast is Paramushir
Island. To the west is the Sea of Okhotsk and to the east is the Pacific Ocean.
Also known as Makanru Island. In Russian, Маканруши. At the center of the island is dormant or extinct stratovolcano named Pik Mitaka (Митака, Mitakayama, 三高山; ) with an elevation of 1,169m (3,835'). Prewar and during World War II, part of Japan. Postwar, part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Today located in Sakhalin Oblast in Russia.
