Blue Beach on Tulagi Island view toward the northwest
On August 7, 1942 at 8:00am, two battalions of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) including the 1st Raider Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Merritt A. Edson (Edson's Raiders) and the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines (2/5) made an unopposed landing on "Blue Beach" on the western shore of Tulagi Island.
