Location Choiseul Province is located in the northwest Solomon Islands on the eastern side of "The Slot". Borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and New Georgia Sound to the west. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). After Solomon Island independence on July 7, 1978, Choiseul was part of Western Province. On February 25, 1992 Choiseul Province was established to include Choiseul Island (Lauru) and offshore islands. Today the administrative headquarters is located on Taro Island. Borders Western Province to the west and south. Borders Santa Isabel Province (Isabel Province) to the southeast.
