Location
Lat 11° 0' 0S Long 166° 15' 0E. Mohawk Bay is located on the southwest edge of Nibanga Nendi Island northeast of the Santa Cruz Island Group (Santa Cruz Islands) in the Solomon Islands.
Wartime History
In early October 1942, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) planned to establish a secret refueling loation for the R Area Air Force seaplanes at Mohawk Bay. Seaplane tender Kunikawa Maru planned to deliver three E13A Jakes to this location but did not sortie due to a mechanical problems. As a result, the Japanese never established a base at Mohawk Bay.
