Both Dreves and Saiafian were members of Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment (C/1/1) in the 1st Marine Division (1st MAR DIV) and fought on Hill 100 (Pope’s Ridge) on Peleliu Island. On September 19, 1944 Pfc Haig Saiafian was killed and remains listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Dreves survived the combat as one of only eight Marines that was unhurt.
