Location Palembang is located in South Sumatra Province in the eastern portion of Sumatra Island, to the south of Singapore. Wartime History During January 1942, used by Allied forces including U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17s for bombing missions against the Japanese. On February 15, 1942 occupied by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) paratroopers from the Teisin Rentai (Raiding Parachute Regiment). Occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. Japanese and American missions against Palembang February 6, 1942–August 10, 1944 Palembang I Airfield (P1) Prewar airfield used by USAAF in the early war occupied by the Japanese.
