Wartime History Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 41 gun control radar, a copy of a U.S. Army SCR-268 radar captured in the Philippines at the start of the Pacific War. During 1942 or 1943 transported to Rabaul. This radar was emplaced at a cresent shaped concrete bunker on the ridge at Malmaluan overlooking Karavia Bay to the north and beyond Simspon Harbor and Rabaul. This gun control radar was part of a large anti-aircraft defense area with anti-aircraft guns, fire control and bunkers. Wreckage The circular base and 'U' shaped upper arms remain in situ.
