Japanese Naval Aces and Fighter Units of WWII

Originally published in 1975 as "Nihon Kaigun Sentokitai" by Kantosha in Japan. In 1989, first published in English by Naval Institute Press (NIP). Coauthors Hata and Izawa provide an excellent summary of Japanese Navy aviation with focus on pilot biographies. Japanese title: "Nihon Kaigun Sentokitai". The authors utilized the Japanese official history, defense archives records and veteran recollections.

This book is divided into three section. The first is a historical overview of Japanese Navy aviation in the Pacific War. Also histories of each Navy Air Group (Kokutai). Finally, biographies and summaries of Japanese Navy aces.

Since publication, this book has been revised and was republished in 2011 as Japanese Naval Air Force Fighter Units and their Aces 1932-1945, which is revised and updated from the original version.

Since then, the co-authors Hata and Izawa have written Japanese Army Air Force Fighter Units And Their Aces 1931-1945. Also books on JAAF and IJN bombers, but these have yet to be translated to English or published outside Japan.
