Pacific Sweep


Published in 1945 by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), 5th Air Force (5th AF), 5th Fighter Command (V Fighter Command) and is a photo book of operations in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) that was printed in Sydney during 1945. The cover has the logo of 5th Fighter Command. Editor: Captain R. B. Wistrand, research editor: Major C. O. Hucker. Photography by V Fighter Command photo section and private Gene Wynne. The book's introduction reads: "This book is a pictorial history of the Fifth Air Force Fighter Command, of its men and how they fought and lived together. It is a backward look across the landscape of war; a diary of men who made possible victory in the air." The book includes artwork by Cpl Jim Nichols depicting aircraft with faces and scenes from the war.
