Ship History Built by Basalt Rock Company at Napa, CA as part of Maritime Commission contract. Laid down on February 19, 1942 as Diver Class Rescue and Salvage Ship. Launched August 22, 1942 as BARS-1. Completed May 20, 1943 assigned to the Royal Navy (RN) under the terms of the Lend Lease Act operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and renamed Caledonian Salvor (0368). On May 26, 1943 photographed in San Pablo Bay off San Francisco. Wartime History Caledonian Salvor was equipped with hard hat divers and operated in New Guinea to provide salvage and repair services. On February 28, 1944 steamed to Uluma Reef (Suckling Reef) to aid in efforts to free grounded SS President Grant but operations were hampered by deteriorating weather conditions. Between March 2, 1944 to March 8, 1944 gale force winds halted work before the effort was abandoned. On July 15, 1944 removed winches and other gear from the shipwreck of the Kotoku Maru off Salamaua. During late May 1945, towed HMAS Colac damaged by shore batteries to Blanche Harbor in the Treasury Islands and undertook temporary repairs then towed her to Finschafen. Postwar On September 2, 1945 officially turned over to Australia as part of Lend Lease. Assigned to the Australian Commonwealth Salvage Board (ACSB). During late 1945, Caledonian Salvor joined Cambrian Salvor operated from in Simpson Harbor at Rabaul salvaging Japanese vessels sunk or damaged during the war. On January 17, 1946 she raised HA-53 Type B Midget Submarine with assistance from Japanese Prisoners Of War (POW). Ultimate fate unknown. On August 5, 1948 sold to Australia with the title officially transfered on October 12, 1948. Operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) then placed out of service. In 1958 sold to Island Tug & Barge Ltd. in Vancouver, Canada and renamed MV Sudbury II and registered in Fiji. During 1981 sold and became a fishing vessel and was renamed FV Lady Pacific.
