Ship History Built by Higgins Industries, New Orleans, LA. Laid down February 24, 1945 as 78' Higgins Motor Torpedo Boat. Launched April 11, 1945 as PT-658. Completed July 30, 1945 and delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN). Wartime History Administratively, PT 649 to PT 660, were to be assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 45 (PTRon 45). Instead, during April 1945, on paper assigned as lend-lease to the Soviet Union, but never delivered. Postwar On August 27, 1946 reclassified as small boat, C105343. Reclassified as floating equipment December 3, 1948. Sold June 30 , 1958. Purchased by Orlando Brown of Oakland and named "Porpoise". Restoration This PT Boat was acquired by Save The PT Boat. Transported to Portland, Oregon and restored by volunteers to World War II configuration and camouflage scheme. During 2005 christened and docked at the Naval Reserve/Coast Guard base at 6735 North Basin Ave. Swan Island.
