At this location was based Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 9 (MTBS-9) and Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 10 (MTBS-10). On August 1, 1943 a Japanese air raid destroyed to PT-Boats that were docked including PT-164 and PT-117. That same afternoon, PT-109 departed from this base when it was lost during a collision in the Blacket Strait. During October 1943, the U.S. Navy (USN) developed Rendova PT Boat Base (Bau Island) on nearby Bau Island. Ewan Stevenson adds: "I went there on a picnic in 1994 very pleasant and searched for a PT boat sunk in the harbour (deep) that is rarely seen/known. Had no success this time either!"
