Ship History Built in 1926. Owned by Koninklijke Paketvaart-Maatschappij (KPM) as MS Sibigo for use in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) as a cargo vessel. Wartime History At the start of the Pacific War, one of twenty-one KPM ships that took refuge in Australia and were provided by the Dutch government to the Allied war effort. Armed with a 12 pounder deck gun at the stern and anti-aircraft guns. Sinking History On March 16, 1945 during a cyclone sunk off Port Douglas after departing Brisbane on a voyage bound for Finschhafen. During the sinking, seventy-two were lost. Rescue Afterwards, only thirteen of the crew were rescued.
