USS Minneapolis (CA-36) with temporary bow at Espiritu Santo
The cruiser was hit by two torpedoes during the Battle of Tassafaronga. Afterwards, the damaged bow was cut off and repairs made by the crew and Seabees then steamed from Tulagi via Espiritu Santo where the temporary bow was installed then proceeded across the Pacific to Pearl Harbor for permenant repairs.
