Sinking History Built by Decatur Iron & Steel Company in Decatur, IL. Laid down November 12, 1942 as Landing Craft Tank (Mark 5). Launched and placed into service as LCT(5)-357 in the U.S. Navy (USN) under the command of Ensign C. B. Simkins. USNR. Wartime History Assigned to LCT Flotilla Three in the Aleutian Islands. On June 30, 1943 during a severe storm, USS Hulbert (AVD-6) ran aground in Massacre Bay off Alexai Point on Attu and sustained substantial hull damage. During July 1943 held uprights by LCT-357 bow in at the stern to hold the damaged vessel in place until it departs for Dutch Harbor. Next, assigned to LCT Flotilla Thirteen, LCT Group Thirty-Seven and participated in the Marianas campaign including the Saipan operation between June 15, 1944 until August 10, 1944. Next, participated in the Tinian operation between July 24, 1944 until August 10, 1944. Postwar Struck from the Navy Register. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped.
