Ship History Built by Dravo Corporation, Wilmington, DE. Laid down December 24, 1943 as LSM-1 Class Landing Ship Medium. Launched February 26, 1944 as USS LSM-201. Commissioned April 14, 1944 into the U.S. Navy (USN) with Ensign Albert J. Buchinsky in command. Assigned to LSM Flotilla Five, LSM Group Fourteen, LSM Division Twenty-Seven. Wartime History During February 1945 part of the U.S. invasion force bound of Iwo Jima. Several days after the initial landing, photographed unloading on the invasion beach with supplies piled with 133rd Naval Construction Battalion (NCB) "Seabees" handling the supplies. For her World War II service earned one battle star for Iwo Jima. Postwar On May 16, 1946 decommissioned at Norfolk. Afterwards, struck from the Naval Register. Fate On November 10, 1946 sold for scrap to Capital Salvage and Sales Co. in Edgewater, NJ.
