Sub History Built by Deutsche Werft (German yard) in Hamburg. Laid down January 7, 1942 as Type IXC/40 U-Boat werk 347. Launched August 26, 1942. Commissioned November 11, 1942 in the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) as U-532 under the command of Fregattenkaptain Ottoheinrich Junker. Assigned to 4. Flottille and the same day departs on a training patrol until late March 1943 and assigned to 2. Flottille. First War Patrol (1st Patrol) On March 25, 1943 departs Kiel on her first war patrol (Patrol 1). Between April 10, 1943 until April 16, 1943 operates with Lerche Wolfpack in the north Atlantic Ocean. Between April 16, 1943 until April 21, 1943 operates with Meise Wolfpack in the north Atlantic Ocean. Between April 27, 1943 until May 4, 1943 operates with Star Wolfpack in the north Atlantic Ocean off Greenland. On May 15, 1943 arrives Lorient ending the 52 day patrol. Second War Patrol (2nd Patrol) On July 3, 1943 departs Lorient on her second war patrol (Patrol 2) via the Atlantic Ocean via Africa and the Indian Ocean to join the German U-boat submarine command at Penang arriving October 30, 1943 ending the 120 day patrol. Assigned to the first Monsun Submarine Group. Third War Patrol (3rd Patrol) On January 4, 1944 departs Penang on her third war patrol (Patrol 3) in the Indian Ocean. On January 25, 1944 sunk USS Walter Camp (7,130 Tons). On March 27, 1944 spots MV Tulagi and tracks the vessel. On March 28, 1944 fired a spread of torpedoes at MV Tulagi. At 1:00am, two hit the starboard side causing it to sink in only 20 seconds stern first, before rolling over to the starboard side. Thirty-nine went down with the ship with only seven later rescued. On April 19, 1944 returns to Penang ending the 107 day patrol. On May 17, 1944 departs Penang and while transiting the Strait of Malacca, encounters British submarine HMS Tally-Ho which fired a six torpedo spread against U-532, but all missed. On May 18, 1944 arrives Singapore. On October 1, 1944 assigned to 33. Flottille. On December 1, 1944 departs Singapore and the same day arrives Batavia on Java. Fourth War Patrol (4th Patrol) On January 13, 1945 departs Batavia on her fourth war patrol (Patrol 4) via the Indian Ocean and Africa then transits the Atlantic Ocean bound for Germany. On May 8, 1945 while underway at sea, learns of the surrender of Germany and is directed to surrender to the Royal Navy. On May 13, 1945 surrendered to the Royal Navy at Loch Eriboll, Scotland ending her patrol after 121 days. Afterwards, departs for Liverpool arriving May 17, 1945 then transferred to Loch Ryan as part of Operation Deadlight to asemble then scuttle surrendered U-boats. Sinking History On December 9, 1945 scuttled by a torpedo fired by British submarine HMS Tantivy at roughly Lat 56.08 N, Long 10.07 W off northern Ireland.
